Something Random

Sometimes I’m feeling experimental or just photograph things that aren’t easily categorized elsewhere… So this is the place for those! You just never know what might end up here, so check back here often! :-)

Pete’s Gonna Pete!

Could be anywhere… anytime!

In this section… well… anything goes! The theme is whatever I want for any given photograph. And it may vary wildly from photo to photo.

A Cautionary Tale: I have an increasing interest in night photography abandoned buildings, abandoned vehicles AND long exposure / light painting. However, with the Covid pandemic, I’ve had little opportunity to get out and do much photography. Normally, that’s something that you can do but unfortunately, due to health considerations, I fall in to a high risk category, so I must be doubly cautious on where I go, etc. It’s usually not a good idea to go in to abandoned places alone. All I’m saying, is expect some night photography soon.

Crystal Bridges Museum

Bentonville, AR

If you ever have the opportunity to make it to Bentonville, you must visit Crystal Bridges Museum. The following photos highlight just a few of the exhibits and architecture of this amazing facility. Endowed by the Walton family of Bentonville, this facility includes works by Georgia O’Keefe, Edward Hopper, Andy Warhol and so many, many more. Not “just paintings”, there are sculptures, glass works, and nearly any & every medium you can imagine. If you get the chance, I strongly recommend a visit! Admission to the general museum is free and special exhibits (such as the Dale Chihuly exhibit I was fortunate enough to tour, or the Ansel Adams photo exhibit that was on display back in September 19, 2020 through January 3, 2021) are modestly priced - usually under $25 from what I’ve seen. Check their website at https://crystalbridges.org/ to see what the special exhibits are. There are walking trails and ohhh so much more to be enjoyed on the grounds.

TASM - Tulsa Air and Space Museum

Tulsa, OK

If you have any interest in things that get off the ground - fly, hover, etc. - then you must visit the TASM if you live anywhere near Tulsa, OK. This is one of the city’s newest and extremely impressive museum. Everything from a Huey helicopter to an Apollo capsule and nearly everything before, during and after in aviation history. There’s even a MIG-21 on the grounds! These are just a few of dozens of photos I took on my first visit back in 2020.

Yo WOMPA!

Recently I took a tour of WOMPA in Tulsa. I had a great time! WOMPA is the most unique venue I’ve personally checked out in the Tulsa metro area! Notice I didn’t say “photography venue. That’s because it’s much more.

I’d been wanting to tour WOMPA for several months (ok, slightly more than a year) - but circumstances just kept getting in the way. But recently a WOMPA employee (Veronica, thank you!) was able to pin me down and personally give me a great tour. Veronica was very knowledgeable about the building and its history and enthusiastic about the creative possibilities of the space.

Yes, it IS a photographer’s dream for a place to shoot - offering indoor AND outdoor spaces. But, as they say on the infomercials “But wait! There’s more!” Much more. There are also co-working spaces, common spaces, etc. Within the massive facility, there is a trucking company office, a hairstylist and other businesses (I should’ve taken notes!), and other creatives hard at work.

There are various types of memberships to suit your needs, whether by the hour or month or whatever you need, they probably have a plan to fit you.

PLEASE NOTE: It was a dreary overcast and drizzling day when I visited. Normally, from the rooftop, you can see Tulsa's downtown skyline, however, when I was there, it was obfuscated by fog. Still, I got the vision that on a ‘nice’ day, the outdoor spaces would be equally remarkable to shoot in. These are a few cellphone shots I took as we progressed on the tour.

Do yourself a favor and check out WOMPA if you need a venue - whether for a photo shoot, a party, a reception, a business meeting, etc. The only limiting factor there seems to be is one’s imagination! Thanks, Veronica and the entire team at WOMPA for letting me tour this awesome place!

Thanks for checking out my work. I hope you see something here that moves you, amuses you, makes you smile, reminisce, or evokes some other positive emotion.

Let’s work together!
